2019 FINDING FRIENDSHIPS NEW SONGS AND ROLE PLAY THROUGH COMMEDIA MASKS

A new phase of development in our 2019 Summer Skills week saw the involvement of siblings working alongside and learning from their peers with additional needs. Many of our young people have taken part in all our Summer Programmes for the past five years and have accumulated key skills in team building and music ensemble work which their siblings have not previously had access to. This programme focused on taking steps to advanced independence and individual creative thinking with peer learning at the heart of the growth of ideas. Our young people worked with commedia masks from Italy. They devised a theatre narrative based on discussions about friendships using characterisation from key Commedia personae. Sessions were led by Commedia and mime specialist Tia Makinnen who introduced character development through stance, movement and vocal gesture. From these archetypical characterisations our young people developed their own commedia narrative about love and friendship.
