Our Current Work
Deirdre Gribbin (music) and Lou Stein (theatre), together with a supporting team of volunteers with a music background, work on a monthly basis with a core of young adults with Down Syndrome. Many of the group have been working together with the Trust for ten years and have formed a self-supportive and confident group who are continuing to develop their communication and social skills in a safe and secure environment. Using a blend of music and theatre exercises and improvisation techniques created by Lou and Deirdre, the group is moving towards developing songs and storylines themselves, which they then perform. Mentorship of each other as a supportive peer group and by the volunteers is an important and unique part of the process. Many of the volunteers themselves have cognitive challenges and they are developing their own sense of confidence with leadership and mentorship skills.
